Some people knew that I was headed to the Breast Center at USC/Norris today. I wanted quickly to let everyone know that the appointment went as well as could be expected. Thankfully, there were no surprises, and I'm scheduled for surgery on the day before Thanksgiving. The doctors are going with a breast conservation procedure, so they anticipate that I will probably go home the same day. I'll provide more details later, but I wanted to get the good word out.

- I wrote the blog, "Merely A Detour," in the months following my diagnosis of breast cancer. It's my story, but it could be yours, or your wife’s, or your mother’s, or your daughter’s. You probably know a woman with breast cancer. If you can’t think of anyone, ask a friend, and he or she will know someone. It’s everywhere. We all have to take action. Even a small act is a good start. Donate to more research. Do a self-exam. Get your annual check-up. Fund-raise for better prevention and screening. Call a friend and prod her into action. After months of treatment, I'm just getting my life back on track, and I'm writing a new blog as I go. Whichever blog you're reading, the underlying theme is the same: It's not the obstacle, but how you deal with it, that matters.
